SUMMARY:  Thomas (Tim Kalkhof), a shy, young and talented German baker, falls in love with Israeli businessman Oren (Roy Miller), a married man who makes frequent business trips to Berlin.
Oren likes the tasty baked goods Thomas makes. . . . but when Oren fails to return for another visit, Thomas learns that he has died in a car crash in Israel.
Heartbroken, Thomas travels to Jerusalem seeking answers regarding his death. Keeping his secret to himself, Thomas meets Anat (Sarah Adler), his lover’s bereft widow, who owns a small café in downtown Jerusalem.  Anat hires Thomas to work at her coffee bar, and Thomas starts to work for her baking German cakes and cookies.
Although not fully kosher and despised by the religious, his delicious cakes turn the place into a city attraction.
Finding himself involved in Anat’s life in a way far beyond his anticipation, Thomas will stretch his lie to a point of no return. (Partially subtitled).  1HOUR, 44 MINS.

Critic reviews:

A tender, tactile and just-sweet-enough story of hidden love, challenged faith and unwittingly shared grief. Full review

Sad and sweet, and with a rare lyricism, “The Cakemaker” believes in a love that neither nationality, sexual orientation nor religious belief can deter. Full review
