Fellow Rotarians,

It’s the beginning of another wonderful Rotary year!

I am thrilled and honored to have been elected President of the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C. for the 2018–2019 Club year and, with the help and support of Board members and fellow Club members, I am certain to meet the challenge. Our rich 106-year history of philanthropy in the District of Columbia and worldwide demonstrates how fortunate we are to have a membership that is fully committed to the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self. Indeed, we DC Rotary Club Rotarians are People of Action.

Our 2018-2019 RI President Barry Rassin has charged us to Be the Inspiration, a theme chosen “because what truly motivates Rotarians is their work. The Rotarians who have the biggest impact through their service aren’t always the women and men with the greatest resources, the most experience, or the largest networks. They’re the ones who are inspired.”

In summary, I look forward to working with each every one of you to Be the Inspiration as we focus on the following goals during this Rotary year:
(1) expanding our impact in the community through additional, direct participation in hands-on projects, and the continued support of worthy nonprofits doing great work throughout our 8 wards;
(2) telling our story, reflecting on historic moments and seizing the opportunity to share new ones, as we have learned that good works don’t speak for themselves, and that we must tell our own story, in a variety of formats and often, to increase exposure;
(3) attracting members to our Club from a broader group of yet untapped communities of civic-minded individuals, by sharing our story with an eye toward the benefit of a Club enriched by additional diverse experiences;
(4) cultivating the next generation of DC Rotary Club Leader by reaching college and young professionals through our Rotaract clubs and middle and high school students through our Interact clubs, and more directly through our Rule of 35 young professionals Club membership;
(5) all while being good stewards of the resources afforded us to achieve these goals.

I would also like to congratulate each of the new Board members. Our fellow club members have shown their confidence in all of us by electing us to our respective positions, and I look forward to serving with you. I have already seen the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment that you bring to the Board.

There is much work to be done in our community still. Let’s go forth, then, and Share the Magic of Rotary! And Make the possible, probable!

Yours in Rotary Service,
Lisa

President (2018-2019)
