International visitors at our July Thursday Happy Hour allowed our members to dust off their French...

Eight Washington DC Rotarians gathered at the Topaz Bar on Thursday evening for the July happy hour, and we were joined by four visitors from the Rotary Club of Verviers Vesdre, Belgium.  The visitors had been in the U.S. for three weeks and were scheduled to fly home the next day.  They hadn’t been able to schedule a visit to one of our club meetings, but learned of the happy hour from our website.  They brought flags from their club and their district to exchange with us.

One of the Belgian visitors spoke excellent English and translated for the others.  One spoke almost no English, and the other two spoke some English but were more comfortable with French.  Our club members present were Diane Eames, past president David Klaus, Haleh Vaziri, Ken Kimbrough, new member Andy Koval, president elect Jennifer Hara, Hal Vaughn, and Russ Savage.  Most of us could speak a little French, and several were quite fluent, so much of the evening’s conversation took place in French.  Who knew we were such an international club?
