News from the Paris Académies Rotary Club
Sad News from Paris --
I have sad news to share from our "sister club" the Paris Académies Rotary Club from my trip to Paris in the last couple of weeks.
Those of you who participated in the Washington, DC-Paris Académies Friendship Exchanges may remember Past President Bernard Winisdoerffer (surgeon)(Roselyne), who died after a long illness, and General Jean-Noël Sorret (Gisèle), who died unexpectedly -- both in the last month.
PP Bernard enthusiastically supported and participated in all of our Friendship Exchanges filming every detail! General Sorret showed the DC delegation around Paris on our first visit; arranged for us to sit in President Chirac's box and personally greet the President at the ceremony celebrating May 8 Victory Day (honoring the end of WWII) as Chirac surveyed the military services standing in formation around at the Arc de Triomphe; introduced us to the Grand Chancellor of the Légion d'honneur, Army General Jean-Pierre Kelche, at the Palace and National Museum of the Légion of Honor; and arranged for our stay in Marseille last year at the French Army's Fort Ganteaume, the historic entrance to the port of Marseille, as well as a dinner at the Fort's famous restaurant overlooking the Old Port, in connection with the Paris Water Summit.
If you would like to send condolences, I suggest they can be sent President Jean-Charles Bossard, Rotary Club Paris Académies, c/o La Coupole, 102 boulevard du Montparnasse, 75014 Paris, France or to Past President Jean Ozonder, 21, Villa d'Alésia, 75014 Paris, France.
