President David opened the meeting at 12:30 pm and led the Pledge of Allegiance.  In lieu of a traditional Words of Inspiration, and in recognition of the Holiday Season, Rotarians joined in two rousing verses and choruses of "Jingle Bells", accompanied by David Klaus on the piano.

President David returned to the podium to make a plea for donations to the Rotary Foundation, hopefully in the $350 range for each member, to urge each Member to vote for next year's officers and Board members, and to encourage attendance at the New Year's Eve Dinner at the National Press Club, beginning at 7:30 pm cocktails, 8 pm dinner.  He also urged Rotarians to find sponsors for the Duck Derby!
 
Clara Montanez, our Program Chair, introduced Artistic Director and Founder, The Embassy Series, Jerome Barry, (who spoke to the group about The Embassy Series earlier this year)and pianist extraordinaire, Christopher Schmitt, who performed a most beautiful program of songs and piano solos.  Their repertoire included a Schumann Leider, "Mattinata" by Paolo Tosti; "Ave Maria" (Bach/Gounod); a Yiddish song, "Abi Gezunt" (As Long As You're Healthy); and Cole Porter's "I Love Paris"--all song by Mr. Barry--and Schubert's "Impromptu No. 3, Liszt's "La Campanella ", and Bach's "Prelude ", played by Mr. Schmitt.
 
The small pot raffle of $65 was won by May O'Brien; the big pot swelled to over $600.  Ken Kimbrough and Lynn Holec each won donated passes to the Spy Museum.
 
President David thanked our loyal wait staff for their outstanding service this year and the University Club for the wine at today's lunch.  He also thanked our Greeter, May O'Brien, our Raffle cashier, Alexander Kravitz, and the Meeting in Review Writer, Bill Busker.
